Description

Doing research differently: imagining better communities in local and global contexts

A day workshop on the subject of communities and universities working together to co-produce research, set in the context of our research which looked at civic engagement and imagining better communities.

We are keen to meet with people who are interested in the potential of community/university partnerships to further social change. We are interested in creating new partnerships as well as discussing the findings of the Imagine project and we would welcome your thoughts and ideas.

A key aspect of our research was about valuing community based knowledge and working to develop and expand this field.

This workshop aims to explore the following:

  • public and ‘expert’ knowledge
  • collaboration on research between communities and universities

You will have the opportunity to join us in:

  • sharing learning and reflections,
  • thinking about how different perspectives enable us to view what is local to us in a new light.

Programme

We will have international perspectives from our visitors from New Zealand/Aotearoa – Māori academics who work in a different context where the divisions between university and community have been challenged and, in some places, overcome. ‘Local’ perspectives will be offered from Rotherham and Huddersfield where community partners have been working with universities to imagine better communities and to explore how to make them happen.

This event is free and registration is on a first come first served basis.
